ABOUT ME
I am Eva Němcová (née Eva Bartušková), a Prague tour guide, and I love my job. I want to show you Prague as you’ve never seen it before.
My story – from marketing specialist to tour guide
I actually got into guiding by accident and it was love at first sight. By the age of thirty I had figured out what I wanted to do, even though it was close: after graduating from high school, I studied at the University of Economics – yes, I enjoyed (and still enjoy) languages, I am communicative and I like meeting people – I’ll fit some work in with my economics degree. And history will be a hobby, after all, you can’t make a living from history! After school, I worked in marketing at an IT company – mainly organizing events, whether purely social or conferences (this experience is very useful to me now!), the website, gift items, and of course a lot of paperwork. So I also did the guide course and then the exams as a “hobby”, it was in 2009. But I was hooked right away. For the first two years I guided in my free time while working, and then I decided to jump into it full-time – and I don’t regret it for a second! Well, maybe sometimes, when it rains, the wind blows or it snows in the morning, I mumble a little, but I wouldn’t change it. So I’ve been a freelance guide since 2011.
What style of tour can you expect?
I guide in Czech, English and Spanish. My clients are Czech and foreign corporate groups, Czech families, schools, sometimes American retirees… I like the diversity. Someone is in Prague for the first time and wants to visit the basic sights, someone knows Prague well but wants to explore the hidden streets and corners… I will never give you a list of dates and names, that is, unless you specifically ask me to. I try to show you easily overlooked details or interesting things that are right in front of your nose but you haven’t noticed them yet. After all, I am in the city center almost every day, and you are probably 3 times a year. I like to show you the logic of the city – why does it look the way it does? Why is Malá Strana different from the Old Town, the Old Town different from the New Town and all of them together different from Josefov? On the other hand, I often learn something new from you.
Experience in marketing and event management is also useful to me, in addition to classic tours, I organize an programs for corporate events – I call it a treasure hunt, which combines a tour of Prague (which marketeers and marketeers may fear as boring activities…) with quizes and games. In addition, I offer the option to order period costumes for the guide – I use high-quality ones from Barrandov, it’s a lot of extra work, but ladies, when was the last time someone paid you to dress up as a princess?
And there’s another type of tour that makes me very happy – tours for children. I was the first to put together a tour “the ghosts of the Old Town” years ago and since then I’ve been refining it and adding more routes – I already have 7 of them and they cover the entire city center. Two-hour tours with legends, ghosts and lots of games and quizes. The best compliment of my entire career came from an eight-year-old boy who said at the end: “Mom, are we going again? But with this lady!”
About Eva Němcová as a company
It´s a small company – for years it used to be one-woman show, since my daughter was born in 2022 my good friend Jana helps me with part of the administration. We have an extensive network of colleagues around us, so if there a time / date conflict we can accommodate more groups. And of course if you want a guide in another language – I have no problem finding a skilled guide in German, French, Italian, but I can also arrange less usuall ones, such as Norwegian, Slovenian, Croatian…
I look forward to seeing you!
